Background

The Wuhan Donde Cloud Valley project is located in the Wuhan East Lake High-Tech Development Zone, also called Optics Valley, one of the first national high-tech zones approved by the State Council. The site is bordered by Gaoxin 4th Road to the north and lies between Fuzuling 3rd Road and Fuzuling 2nd Road to the east and west. Standing at an important strategic position with great significance, the park brings together many top high-tech enterprises in China. Innovation thus naturally becomes the highlight of Donde Cloud Valley.

The architectural design outlines the blueprint of future life, in which people can truly embrace nature in a space with fresh air, sunlight, green trees and blue sky; a warm living environment is promised, where the architecture and landscape are found to be integrated everywhere unexpectedly, without constraints or limitations. The design philosophy of incorporating architecture into landscape gives the space a sense of infinity and uniqueness.

Shape and space

A geometric building volume is clearly outlined to create a classic modernist style, and together with the surrounding buildings, it forms an “art gate” and provides a solid urban interface to the residential area nearby. A new public art space then begins to take shape.

Such diverse changes are entirely attributable to the integrated design of landscape and architecture: the architecture offers a place for social interaction and also becomes a landscape itself. This shows that the form of landscape is never all the same.

All landscape elements in the site, even if the building volume is small, need to be visually appealing and in perfect harmony with the whole site. In such a landscape design, we catch a glimpse of the bigger picture from small design elements.

Light and Shadow

The solar panel material on the exterior of the building creates a translucent effect and brings dramatic changes to the structure against different lights in the daytime or at nights. The landscape just simply provides more possibilities for light and shadow changes. In this way, cold structures become lively with the traces of time.

As the light changes throughout the day, it spills over into every corner of the site as an independent material. The aluminum panels take on different hues as the intensity of the sunlight varies, while the glass shares the same colors with the sky. On the calm water surface, one can find the reflections of the building and sky. Just let your imagination run riot amidst the changes of light and shadow in the space.

Layers of light reflections place upon one another, which blurs the edges and boundaries of the building and adds variation to it. Everything is designed to perfection. A big tree, simple as it may be, becomes an integral part of the building with the interaction of different materials, illustrating the design theme of “Dialogue with Nature”.

In people’s minds, the identity of deer is noble. In Miyazaki's work, it is the immortal god guarding the forest, and this smart animal is also a favorite of photographers.

In this project, we welcome our guests with a set of deer themed installation artworks. The sculptures can give impressive memories to every visitor entering the site, and with irregular facets that can reflect everything nearby, they become the highlights of the entire space.
