Chengdu Merchants·Times Park
项目位置:成都市天府新区雅州路西侧,与天府公园相邻
Located in the Central Business District of Chengdu Tianfu New District, the project site is on the axis of Tianfu Avenue and adjacent to Tianfu Park, which will become the new center of Chengdu in the future. The complex covers four property types of residence, commerce, apartment, and office, where the ecological green corridor is the "green breathing system" that connects the entire area. Since the rapid modernization process has brought about a tremendous increase in industrial supporting facilities, it has also brought about problems such as the connection between the city and nature, and the lack of public space. The biggest challenge is how to create an ecological and vivid scene that is recognized by both locals and the immigrant population, rather than design a single space.
The balanced symbiosis among nature, people, architecture and city is the core of the landscape design of this project. At the beginning of the design, we create rich artistic space by injecting public vitality space, reshaping urban memory, and integrating the formal language of architecture and landscape and the spatial relationship of venues, so as to trigger various participatory activities, including commercial performances and art exhibitions. Through these dynamic spaces which can be used for people's daily interaction, they can better connect with the city.As the historical context of Chengdu, the local mountains and rivers convey the history and memory of the city, which become the conceptual basis and language form at the beginning of design.
Starting from a life context, the design is inspired by the rivers and mountains as the two natural contexts. These natural wonders contain the cultural heritage of Chengdu for thousands of years, and they are also the foundation for the continuation of the cultural heritage of this land.
In this project, the context is evolved to have a new meaning in the site and space, and creates different spatial feelings through the change of form, thus bringing diversified public spaces and art experience stages. This landmark stage is also an ecological stage that represents the vitality and rebirth of this city.
River·Urban Art Stage
▼Defined as the flow of water, the Chinese character Chuan represents life and rebirth, and the circulating "stream" is a vital element that runs through the entire site. As the display interface of the site, the front area is adjacent to Tianfu Park, which is a gathering space for the urban population and the source of rivers. Considering the park, building, and site as a whole, the architects integrate and unify them in design, and guide the flow of people into the site naturally through turning waterscapes, ground paving, key point logo sculptures, and artistic lighting.

Clean and tidy, the pavement in the front area can meet the needs of flexible activities during day and night or on weekends.
▼The linear grass slopes and forest trails create a key visual gap between the frontage and the site, while also providing people with shade. In addition, it creates a visual connection from the entrance to the leisure space on the south side, weakening the boundary between the building and space, and strengthening the connection between the spaces.
▼Whether it is the glass curtain wall like a folding fan, the rich and varied light and shadow reflected in the waterscape, or the paved guiding colored light strip, the entire space is arranged like a stage, which prepares for the upcoming Tianfu Central Business District.

Mountain·Urban Living Room
▼Winding and flexible mountain breaks old rules and continues endless lives. The advantage of mountains and rivers converge in the leisure space on the south side of the building and the back area, and the space is more dynamic and participatory than the front area. The rhythm of mountains and rivers is applied to this multi-level compound space, where leisure space, green plant space, and waterscape space are divided to form an organic landscape layout naturally, making it a young and vibrant urban living room.
▼The winding paths, rhythmic grass steps, and smoothly flowing waterscape form an organic and unified whole, which naturally ablates the height difference on the square and enriches the visual effect vertically. The paving bricks, whitewashed stones, and green grass terraces used in the square set off and contrast with each other, creating a very pleasant public space together.▼The interactive water channel connects all the different parts of the venue in an energetic, participatory and social way. The water flow not only stimulates the vitality of the public space, but it is also the highlighted node in the landscape design. The entire waterway has experienced natural forms of water falling, surging springs, water flowing, and stillness. These rich water changes make the limited space enhance people's experience perception and visual touch with surrounding elements.
The design and construction of the entire water channel have undergone various forms of scrutiny and modeling at the beginning of the design. After studying the forms and rhythms of various water flows and repeated selection and proofing of materials, it finally showed a vivid line of flow throughout the entire site.
The whole water channel is more like a galaxy under the embellishment of star background lamps, flowing in the site and forming an interaction of points, lines, and planes.

▼As a highlight of the project, the vertical treatment perfectly combines the plane streamline and vertical height difference, as well as the natural transition and fusion of different materials. In the sunken space, the natural grass slopes and the washed stone steps intersect each other and combine to blur the vertical boundaries, making the overall project orderly and varied. While emphasizing the formal language of mountains and rivers, it also softens the rigid stepped space, providing people with a more natural and comfortable space experience.
VIP drop-off area
▼The building and the site considered, the roadway and the pedestrian entrance are separated far away, and visitors can enter the VIP area from the backyard of the building. At the same time, the concept of "stream water" extends here, where a mirrored waterscape is set up to reflect the sense of ritual and quality at the entrance, just like a small boat floating on the galaxy and anchoring here.
|The design of a venue has no final form, which should be vital as a process of continuous renewal and extension. Through the reshaping of space, the extension of context, and the penetration of ecology, the design makes the interaction between people, nature, and architecture a balance in the city. The architects hope that the venue will surprise first-time visitors, and satisfy the local residents and staff who will use the space the most, and make them willing to visit it again and again.
